Global Talent Vs Innovator Founder Visa
One of the primary work visa options in the UK is the Skilled Worker visa, which mandates that an employer must secure a sponsor license to support skilled roles with genuine job openings.
In December, Home Secretary James Cleverly announced changes that raise the income threshold from £26,200 to £38,700, exceeding the national average salary in the UK. This adjustment has sparked criticism from the tech industry, with the Startup Coalition and The Entrepreneurs Network cautioning Cleverly about the potential negative impact of these modifications.
The UK tech sector commonly utilises the same points-based sponsored work visa routes as other industries. However, there are two specialised immigration pathways for tech professionals - the Innovator Founder visa and the Global Talent visa.
The Global Talent visa caters to individuals who are highly recognised in their field or show exceptional promise, including those in digital technology. This visa is appealing as it doesn't require sponsorship, is generally more cost-effective, and allows for settlement in three years for leaders in their respective fields, as opposed to the standard five years. While typically an endorsement from an endorsing body like Tech Nation is necessary, applicants who have received an award from the Home Office's approved prize lists since May 2021 can bypass this requirement.
The Innovator Founder visa, on the other hand, has replaced similar visas and enables founding teams to establish a business in the UK that government-appointed bodies have endorsed as innovative, viable, and scalable.
