Possible Increase in Skilled Worker Visa Minimum Salary

In an effort to control the soaring levels of legal migration, the government is expected to raise the minimum salary for foreign workers. Specifically, the minimum salary for a skilled worker visa is anticipated to increase from its current value of £26,200.

Additionally, there will likely be restrictions on visas for healthcare professionals and limitations on the number of dependents that migrants can bring to the UK.

Furthermore, there may be further conditions imposed on certain student visas.

The government has faced mounting pressure to address the issue of legal migration, especially after recent data revealed a staggering net migration of 745,000 last year. Home Secretary James Cleverly is expected to announce these new measures in the House of Commons later. Although the exact minimum salary has yet to be confirmed, reports suggest that it could exceed £35,000.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has pledged to decrease migration levels, which have continued to rise since Brexit, despite the Conservative Party's promise in the 2019 election to reduce them.
