Graduate Trainee (Global Business Mobility)
The new graduate trainee route is one of the five Global Business Mobility immigration routes. This has replaced the Intra-Company Graduate Trainee route from 11 April 2022.
The route is aimed towards overseas workers that want to undertake a structured graduate training programme at a UK branch or subsidiary of their overseas employer.
Graduate Trainee visa eligibility requirements
This visa route is available for anyone age 18 or over at the date of application and must be for coming to the UK to join a structured Graduate Training Programme for a managerial or Specialist role. The applicant must be an existing employee of an organisation that has been approved by the Home Office as a UK sponsor.
This role has a requirement that the individual has a minimum salary of £23,100, and the individual must be working for the overseas business at the date of application and for at least three months before applying. The job that the graduate is coming to the UK must be at an appropriate skill level of 6 or above.
Graduate Trainee visa sponsorship requirements:
The sponsor must be linked to either a common ownership or control, or by a joint venture agreement, to an overseas business.
The linked overseas business must offer evidence of a structured graduate training programme leading to either a senior management or specialist position that has a legitimate work placement in the UK.
Length of stay
You can stay in the UK for either the time that is given on your certificate plus 14 day or 12 months. You are unable to extend this visa, but you can apply for another Graduate Trainee visa from outside the UK.
You can stay in the UK for a maximum period of 5 years in any 6-year period on any one of the Global Business Mobility routes.
Can dependants join visa holders on the UK Graduate Trainee visa route?
Yes, a Graduate Trainee can be accompanying by their spouse/partner and dependent children provided they fulfil the relationship and financial requirement. If successful, the visa for the dependants will end on the same date as the Graduate Trainee visa.
