HPI Would your Uni qualify?
The United Kingdom's High Potential Individual visa is an incredible pathway for eligible individuals seeking to immigrate. Graduates from approximately 40 top universities within the past five years can come and work in the UK without needing sponsorship from an employer.
This is not only great news for the applicants, but also for employers who can now access qualified talent from around the world without the burden of sponsorship duties. It's important to note that applicants on this visa route are not limited to employment with UK businesses holding a sponsor license, and their employment is not subject to standard occupation classification (SOC) codes or minimum salary restrictions.
If granted a High Potential Individual (HPI) visa, you will have the opportunity to bring your family to the UK and explore various work options. Whether you choose to work for an employer, start your own business, or embark on a self-employed journey, the HPI visa provides flexibility and opportunities for growth.
Once again, United States higher education institutions dominate the list, with 19 universities making the cut this year. These include prestigious names such as California Institute of Technology (Caltech), Columbia University, Harvard University, and many more.
However, there has been a significant increase in Chinese universities qualifying graduates for the HPI visa. Notably, Fudan University, Peking University, and Tsinghua University are among the institutions from mainland China on the list. Canada, Japan, Singapore, and select European countries also have qualifying universities.
The University of Melbourne proudly represents Australia as the sole qualifying institution in the Southern Hemisphere.
UK universities are not eligible. If you’re already in the UK on a student visa you may be able to apply for a Graduate Visa.
The lists consist of eligible non-UK institutions that are included in the list of the top 50 universities for that year in at least two of the following ranking systems:
1. Times Higher Education World University Rankings
2. Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings
3. The Academic Ranking of World Universities
To apply for this route, your qualification must have been verified by Ecctis which provides official global qualification recognition services to the UK Government. Guidance on how to do this and how much this will cost can be found at Visas and Nationality Services (http://ecctis.com ).
