Midwifery Students Can Undertake Electives
Positive changes made to Appendix V of the Immigration Rules will allow midwifery students who are studying degree level equivalent courses overseas to come to the UK as a visitor and undertake electives with a UK higher education provider, providing these are unpaid and involve no treatment of patients.
Important to Note
Where the applicant is seeking to come to the UK to undertake a clinical attachment or dental observer post as an overseas graduate from a medical, dental, or nursing school, they must provide written confirmation of their offer to start this post and confirm they have not previously undertaken this activity in the UK.
Where the applicant is seeking to come to the UK to take the Professional and Linguistic Assessment Board test, they must provide written confirmation of this from the General Medical Council.
Where the applicant is seeking to come to the UK to take the Objective Structured Clinical Examinations for overseas, they must provide written confirmation of this from the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
Permitted activities must not amount to the visitor undertaking employment or doing work which amounts to them filling a role or providing short-term cover for a role within a UK based organisation and where the Visitor is already paid and employed outside of the UK they must remain so and they must not receive payment from a UK source for any activities undertaken in the UK.
